Jaguar warriors (jaguar knight; Classical Nahuatl: oce¯lo¯tl) were certain members of the Aztec army that were professional warriors. These warriors would be classified as special forces with the distinction of either jaguar or eagle warriors. These two totems were used due to the belief that the eagle and jaguar represented the sun and moon respectively.
Jaguar warriors were feared by their opponents in battle. The warriors used uniforms made from jaguar skin to create this fear.
Unlike the eagle warrior, the jaguar knights were the spies of the army. They would survey cities to discover their weaknesses. Then the eagle warriors would strike, and the jaguars would surround the city.
